Support our Students. Protect our Property Values. Not a New Tax.

In 2020, our community passed a Parcel Tax to fund 24 educator positions and academic programs. Today, due to cost of living impacts, our same tax funds only 18 teachers and staff. When Measure N expires in 2028, $3 million will disappear, leaving the San Carlos School District with no choice but to cut teaching/staff positions and reduce critical programs. But we have a choice: Together, we can protect our schools, and our property values, by renewing our parcel tax this November!

Don't Lose the Teachers and Staff Who Make San Carlos Schools Great

When our schools are strong, San Carlos is strong. We know that people choose to move to San Carlos because of our strong schools. Thanks to our exceptional teachers and staff, all San Carlos schools are California Distinguished schools. However, they are at risk. The cost of paying educators make up 85% of the budget. The state only funds 10% of our District budget. 90% of our budget comes from our local community--property taxes, Measure N, and donations. The Measure K Parcel Tax is designed to fund the positions for 24 educators and maintain high-quality programs.

Supporting Renewal means we can:

  • Retain & Attract highly qualified teachers
  • Provide hands-on science, math, technology, art, and engineering programs
  • Protect high quality educational programs, including in reading and writing
  • Maintain lower class sizes
  • Support students with learning differences

Safeguards for Seniors and Taxpayers are Built-in

  • Senior citizens are eligible for an exemption.
    • Senior citizen resident homeowners 65 years or older are eligible for an exemption through a simple application process. Those with an existing exemption do not need to re-apply. We do not want this measure to become a burden to those living on a fixed income. To find out more about how to apply, please contact Lisa Ceragioli by phone: (650) 590-5927 or email: [email protected]
  • All funds stay local to support classroom instruction. The State cannot take these funds away.
  • NO funds are allowed for administrators' salaries.
  • Citizens' oversight and mandatory audits ensure proper spending.
  • The Parcel tax lasts 8 years. It cannot be extended without a new vote.

The Measure K Parcel Tax Replaces the Soon-to-expire Measure N

A vote for Yes on Measure K means we can offer adequate salaries, avoid losing teachers and staff members to other districts, and prevent layoffs. That’s why residents, parents, teachers, business and civic leaders from every neighborhood SUPPORT Strong San Carlos Schools by voting YES on Measure K on the November Ballot.
