Vote YES for Strong San Carlos Schools

We must invest in our children now to protect the outstanding education they receive in our San Carlos School District (SCSD) schools. San Carlos is a desirable place to live, and enrollment in our schools is increasing. But compared to other districts on the Peninsula, its funding has remained flat and has not kept pace with inflation.

The Parcel Tax Measure is necessary! When our schools are strong, San Carlos is strong. Teacher salaries make up the majority of our District budget, and this Measure funds those teachers that make our schools great.

However, the cost of living has surged, and the community supported parcel tax established six years ago to fund teacher positions has stayed flat. It now funds 25% fewer teachers today than it originally did.

What would happen if Measure N expires? About $3 million dollars would disappear from the SCSD budget, and SCSD would be forced to reduce teaching positions and increase class sizes. This would impact electives and student support programs. We would lose our quality teachers to other districts.

Renewing our Parcel Tax is critical to:

  • Retain & Attract highly qualified teachers

  • Provide hands-on science, math, technology, art, and engineering programs

  • Protect high quality educational programs, including in reading and writing

  • Maintain lower class sizes

  • Support students with learning differences

  • Provide ~$4.4M to the SCSD annual budget

The Measure REQUIRES strong accountability provisions:

  • All funds are locally controlled and used to support classroom instruction

  • No funds used for administrators' salaries

  • BY LAW these funds cannot be taken by the State

  • Senior citizens are eligible for an exemption

Supporting quality education is a wise investment that protects the well-being of our community and keeps property values strong.

Please join San Carlos parents, teachers, neighbors, businesses and community leaders fighting to protect our local quality of education.  Vote YES for Strong San Carlos Schools.
